About Our Practice Areas
At GOODMAN LAW, P.C., we have a General Civil Trial Practice and do nearly every kind of civil case, except for divorces and some select others.
There are two basic types of law: (1) Civil Law and (2) Criminal Law. We practice Civil Law, which includes situations where you have been injured, have a problem with a contract, or need an attorney to help you protect your private rights. A sum of money, often called damages, is assessed for violations of civil law.
Our website contains a list of “practice areas” that are illustrative of the types of cases that we often handle. If the exact type of case that you need help with is not listed, please contact us so we can discuss the facts and circumstances of your case to determine whether we are able to assist you.
We attempted to make the list of practice areas as comprehensive as possible, but just as there are billions of people on earth, there are billions of unique legal problems that we may have missed.
Please contact us, even if your specific situation is not listed. If we determine that we are not able to advise or represent you, we can direct you to attorneys who are able to handle your legal matter.

EXAMPLE
Tractor-trailer/autos Accident–what do you do when the evidence suggests that your tractor-trailer driver (who tested positive for methadone) crashed into two oncoming vehicles and all three drivers died in fiery crashes? In a letter from the President of the Company, you promptly admit wrongdoing, apologize profusely for the egregious error of your employee and negotiate a prompt settlement – in approximately two months, the claim of one of the decedent’s estate was settled and six months later the other decedent’s estate’s claim was settled.

Products Liability / Design Defect
If you have been injured by a product or if you manufactured a product that is the subject of a products liability claim, GOODMAN LAW is here to help. These cases are sometimes referred to as design defects as well. Working on both sides of these cases provides us with a unique perspective that many attorneys do not have. We know what motivates a manufacturer and we know what motivates individuals who have been harmed by a product that they innocently purchased.
There are times when the manufacturer has done something wrong and the victim or his or her family should be compensated. There are also times when manufacturers are falsely accused. Our lives revolve around new and exciting products, and we want to help people and products get along safely. By enforcing everyone’s legal rights, we at GOODMAN LAW hope that the world will be full of more products and that people will be safe.
Construction Law
If you are involved in a construction project that you are not happy with, please give GOODMAN LAW, P.C. a call. We are here to help homeowners, contractors, product manufacturers, or anyone else who has been involved in a construction project and feels that they wrongly treated.
Construction projects involve large sums of money, multiple parties, and a wide array of laws. At GOODMAN LAW, P.C., we pride ourselves at helping you navigate this maze of relationships. We know that construction projects can be personally important, and can impact lives in a substantial way. We are skilled and ready to help you with issues like:
- Sinking or collapsing foundations or structures
- Leaking doors, windows or roofs with water intrusion
- Soil settling, erosion, runoff and drainage
- Fraudulent transactions
- Plumbing or insulation failures
Here is an example of a case that we handled:
A City filed a multi-million dollar dispute against a structural design firm and a general contractor. During the litigation, the City’s attorney/counsel billed the City approximately $1.8 million in fees and expenses. This $1.8 million “investment” in the litigation by the City’s attorney became the key impediment to settling the dispute against the design firm because the City insisted on recouping this $1.8 million in attorney fees in addition to the millions in damages it allegedly suffered.
A Development Agreement provided that a third party (not a named party to the litigation) was responsible for repairing damages and maintaining the structure. Representing the design firm, the attorneys at GOODMAN LAW, P.C. used this Agreement for leverage, resulting in a more vastly modest settlement than the City initially demanded.
Commercial Law / Business Law
GOODMAN LAW has represented a number of lenders, financial institutions, manufacturers, and developers, whether for developing contracts, going to court, or working on other unique issues. Whether yours is a large corporation or a small one, we will provide you with personalized, expert representation.
Contract Drafting
The attorneys at GOODMAN LAW, P.C. are experienced at litigating contracts. This gives them a unique and advantageous perspective when drafting contracts. Unlike a transactional attorney, who simply writes up a contract and never deals with a contract dispute, GOODMAN LAW’s attorneys know what terms should or should not be included in the contract. Jeff Goodman has been litigating for 30 years, working in front of judges on many occasions, and learning how and why a judge will or will not enforce certain contract terms. He understands people and their motivations and he and his staff are adept at predicting and preventing problems.
